Mobile Manager Wall to Wall Inventory - Continued
Step 6 - Finalize the inventory
It's been fun but all good things must come to an end. It is time to finalize
our inventory. Press the finalize button and you will see the finalize screen.
This is the final step to commit our inventory counts to the point of sale system.
Before we commit the changes, a brief explanation about what you see in the
screenshot.
.
The Current column shows the current value of inventory at cost and at retail
price.
The Proposed column shows the value of inventory
when the new counts are applied to the system.
The Totals section simply shows the net difference between
the current and proposed values of the inventory both at cost and retail.
The grid shows all items counted during the inventory with
the current on-hand and the physical count and the resulting affect on inventory that will take
place when the inventory is finalized. This grid can be copied and pasted
into other applications like Microsoft Excel. Mobile Manager does not maintain
a history of these changes. The history is kept in QuickBooks as a quantity
adjustment voucher.
Zero Items not counted - This options lets you choose to set item counts to zero that were not found or
counted during inventory. This is useful when a complete and thorough count
has been done and you are certain that all merchandise was counted.
Commit Now -
All the displayed changes will be sent to the QuickBooks point of sale system
and a quantity adjustment memo will be created. All inventory
counts will be applied to
the database
We'll press the Commit Now button and follow the onscreen prompts and the inventory
is complete. That is it! As you can see, the mobile device coupled with
the Mobile Manager software suite allows users to easily complete an in store inventory
even while the store is open.
Separation of Responsibility
One final note about the Mobile Manager inventory module relates to the separation
of responsibility. As you have seen in the previous pages the Mobile Manager
inventory process starts at the base station by defining an inventory job.
Typically,
a manager will create the inventory job, retrieve the snapshot data and start the
base station in listening mode. Once the job is set up, the manager can then
give the hand held to an employee to perform the actual counts. The inventory
process is finalized by the manager when the counting is complete. The inventory
summary data gives the manager performance data about the employees productivity.
The number of scans/counts, number of unique items scanned and so forth. It
also puts the responsibility of updating the database into the hands of the manager
as opposed to the inventory person. We really tried hard to think of everything!
